Product Development Manager (New Position)

Product Development Manager (New Position)

As a Product Development Manager at Badger Mutual Insurance, you have the opportunity to join a relationship-based company whose foundation was built upon compassion, protection, and fostering the education and success of our employees. Your responsibilities will include the research, analysis, development and delivery of new products and enhancements to existing products for the personal and commercial lines of business in 10 states.

What Will You Do?

  • Conduct market research and analysis to identify new products and product enhancements
  • Present product recommendations to the Executive team for review and approval
  • Prepare compliant rate, rule, product and form filings
  • Serve as primary contact for DOI product inquiries
  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship with agency partners
  • Identify internal system requirements to implement new products and improve existing programs
  • Review product profitability, market trends, design and rates in conjunction with actuarial, marketing, underwriting and claims
  • Review and implement changes to rates, forms, underwriting guidelines and marketing materials

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, insurance or other related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of product development experience in the P & C insurance industry
  • Insurance designation such as CPCU, CIC or other related insurance education preferred
  • Knowledge of insurance coverages and pricing, underwriting procedures, rules and regulations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Innovative, creative and results driven in pricing and product development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Receptive to business, policyholder and agent new product ideas

Commercial Lines Underwriter

Commercial Lines Underwriter

As a Commercial Lines Underwriter at Badger Mutual Insurance, you have the opportunity to join a relationship-based company whose foundation was built upon compassion, protection, and fostering the education and success of our employees. Your responsibilities will include underwriting business such as sports bars and taverns, restaurants, apartments and small family dwellings in up to 10 states. You will work closely with independent insurance agents and partner with Regional Managers to promote profit and premium growth through new and renewal accounts.

What Will You Do?

  • Underwrite new business, renewal policies and policy endorsements
  • Review policy applications and related documents to assess the degree of risk
  • Review inspection and/or loss control reports on new and existing policies
  • Conduct risk analysis to determine acceptance, rejection, or non-renewal of policies
  • Utilize underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance with state regulations
  • Negotiate policy terms and conditions with agents on complex accounts
  • Review and apply underwriting guideline changes and promote new business
  • Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with agencies

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years underwriting or related work experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and effectively
  • A confident decision maker with negotiation skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Good judgement, a great work ethic and highly self-motivated
