Personal Lines Underwriter

Personal Lines Underwriter

($45,000-$55,000 annual salary – depending on experience)

At Badger Mutual, we believe insurance is more than numbers—it’s about people. Our success is built on strong partnerships, clear communication and a deep understanding of our clients’ needs. What sets this role apart is our emphasis on relationship-driven underwriting.  As an Account Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting Personal Lines accounts in up to 7 states.  You will work closely with independent insurance agents and partner with our Trust Advisors to promote profit and premium growth through new and renewal accounts.  On the job training is provided to learn underwriting guidelines and the mutual insurance industry regulations.

What Will You Do?

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents and clients
  • Underwrite new business, renewal policies and policy endorsements
  • Review policy applications and related documents to assess the degree of risk
  • Review inspection and/or loss control reports on new and existing policies
  • Conduct risk analysis to determine acceptance, rejection or non-renewal of policies
  • Utilize underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance with state regulations
  • Negotiate policy terms and conditions with agents on complex accounts
  • Provide exceptional service to policyholders and independent agents

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent education and work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of Property & Casualty insurance industry experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build rapport quickly
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and effectively
  • A confident decision maker with negotiation skills
  • Good judgement, a great work ethic and highly self-motivated
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

Client Services Specialist

Client Services Specialist

($24.25-29.09/hour – based on experience)

What Will You Do?

  • Develop an understanding of the customer service functions by performing the day-to-day duties in the accounts, administration, underwriting and claims departments
  • Assist customers with billing questions, account updates, coverage questions and concerns, and filing new claims
  • Provide superior customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Maintain knowledge of current customer service web-based industry standards and best practices
  • Research and resolve complex customer service issues promptly and professionally
  • Assist other departments processing tasks as needed
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Maintain customer service productivity and quality standards with measurable results
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer experience and suggest process improvements

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years of P&C insurance industry customer service experience
  • Property & Casualty Insurance license or ability to obtain within 90 days from hire (paid for by Badger Mutual)
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-motivated with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to think outside of the box to develop creative solutions for the customers’ needs
  • Excellent active listening, written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible with the ability to manage multiple priorities and multitask using technology
  • Strong organizational, problem solving and critical thinking skills

Casualty Claims Supervisor

Casualty Claims Supervisor

($95,000-$110,000 annual salary – based on experience)

As a Casualty Claims Supervisor at Badger Mutual Insurance, you have the opportunity to join a relationship-based company whose foundation was built upon compassion, protection, and fostering the education and success of our employees. Your responsibilities will include the prompt investigation, settlement and payment of claims, and the training, development and performance of staff.

What Will You Do?

  • Supervise, mentor and support a team of claims adjusters
  • Assign daily claims for prompt investigation, equitable settlement, and timely payment
  • Review and approve claims which exceed adjuster’s authority level
  • Negotiate complex, high exposure claims, authorize payments within authority level and establish reserves as needed
  • Consult with legal counsel on litigated claims and present evidence at legal proceedings
  • Review and approve claimant complaint responses
  • Report and document potential high-risk and reinsurance claims
  • Provide guidance on complex claims and act as an escalation point for resolution
  • Develop and implement best practices to improve claims efficiency
  • Collaborate with underwriters, agents and other departments to ensure consistency and service excellence
  • Provide training and development, including leading case discussions at meetings

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent education and work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years of claims experience
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to manage workload independently and effectively
  • A confident decision maker with negotiation skills
  • Good judgement, a great work ethic and highly self-motivated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite software
