2011 Don & Sally Davis Boys & Girls Club Youth of the
Year
“Boys & Girls Clubs has
been my personal trainer that pushed me to
join programs when I didn’t really want to.
I am so thankful that they have given me a
chance to succeed in life instead of letting
me fail.”
At the age of 13, Ashleigh assumed many
responsibilities for her three younger siblings while
attending school full time and working a part time job
to take some of the load off of her grandmother’s
shoulders.
Despite the demands of her course load,
extra-curricular activities, community involvement and
family responsibilities, Ashleigh flourished at Boys &
Girls Clubs, refusing to buckle under the stress. She
was picked as one of the Peer Educators to facilitate
the Making Proud Choices program to other youth and she
enthusiastically recruited 15-20 teens to come to class.
She developed and successfully implemented a program
targeting 9-12 year old girls to discuss conflict
management/resolution, stress indicators and
interpersonal communication in relationships. Ashleigh
also participated in Above the Influence with six other
teens and shared her perspective on how teens in the
community can better stand up to negative influences and
make smart decisions on a panel.
Ashleigh naturally stands out as a role
model for others in her community. She is a peacemaker
to those around her, a counselor to her friends, a
role-model for her little sisters and a source of pride
to her family. Ashleigh has big dreams for life: she is
determined to take charge of her own life and is
determined to get the education she will need to reach
her goals.
“I do not want to be a
product of my environment. I want to set an
example for my siblings and model what a
post-high school education can do for your
life.”
Badger Mutual Insurance Company sponsors an Adopt-a-Kid
for Camp campaign on a yearly
basis. Employees, agents and
business associates send in monetary donations to provide
children from the Davis Boys & Girls Club a week of
overnight camping on beautiful Lake Keesus in Hartland,
Wisconsin. This year 175
children were adopted bringing the grand total of adopted
Kids for Camp since 2002 to over
1,250.

Thank you for bringing FUN into their lives and
making a difference.
The mission of Camp Whitcomb / Mason is to provide
and imaginative, outdoor education, recreational
experience where youth has the opportunity to
develop a sense of competence, usefulness and
belonging through there accomplishments, while
developing skills, responsibility and respect for
others in a safe and healthy non-urban environment.
Right after Thanksgiving you’ll find our
Christmas giving tree in the conference center.
Employees select cards with kids’ ages and wishes for a
particular item. Gifts are purchased and placed under
the tree. Each year over 100 gifts are under the tree.
The Club picks them up and personally delivers the gift to a
family. For some families this may be the only gift a
child receives. |
